Mental Health Mallee Pre-Launch Event with Guest Speaker Matt Runnalls

Before Mental Health Mallee officially launched, we held a very special pre-launch event featuring mental health advocate and lived experience speaker, Matt Runnalls. Held in 2022, this event was more than just a gathering — it was a bold step toward reshaping how our region talks about mental health.

Matt shared his raw, powerful story with honesty and hope, reminding us all that vulnerability is strength. His message planted the seed for what Mental Health Mallee would become: a space where connection, understanding, and proactive wellbeing take centre stage.

We also had the privilege of sitting down with Matt for a filmed interview — a conversation that remains one of our most foundational pieces, reminding us why we started and who we’re here for.

Matt Runnalls is a nationally recognised mental health advocate, speaker, and founder of Mindfull Aus. Having faced the darkness of mental illness firsthand, Matt has dedicated his life to suicide prevention and mental health education — particularly in rural communities like ours. With a unique ability to connect through vulnerability and lived experience, Matt’s message resonates deeply: that no one should ever feel alone in their pain. His presence at our pre-launch event gave Mental Health Mallee its heart — reminding us why open conversations and early intervention matter so much.
