Engineering Resilience and Strength: A Journey From Refugee to Community Leader with Rabel Marqus

In one of our most moving podcast episodes, we sat down with Rabel Marqus, an engineer, community leader, and former refugee, to discuss his journey from war-torn Iraq to building a new life in Mildura. Rabel shared how the loss of his father and the ensuing instability forced his family to flee Iraq, spending two years as refugees in Jordan before arriving in Australia on a humanitarian visa.

In our conversation, Rabel opened up about the challenges of navigating grief, cultural displacement, and the pressures of starting over in a new country. He spoke candidly about the mental health struggles he faced and the resilience he developed through these experiences. Rabel emphasised the importance of community support, cultural identity, and creative expression in fostering mental wellbeing.

This episode is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of sharing our stories. Rabel's journey highlights the intersection of culture, mental health, and resilience, offering valuable insights for anyone facing adversity.
